Untitled, 2017. 16mm film transferred to video, b/w, silent, 5’42”.
This untitled work follows the arc of an encounter between two subjects in a series of spaces. In each space, the ritual of encounter flickers, exposing the concurring initial encounter within each of the two subjects’ inner landscapes. The film moves to challenge the embedded understanding of subjectivity between two meeting human beings, bearing themselves to each other, within a prescribed understanding of a separateness between them and the space they occupy.
I am me,
you are you,
we meet as separate entities,
attempting to find
common ground,
ground,
we stand atop
the ground,
we are not ground,
the ground is beneath us,
we are between it
and
what? The film moves towards annihilation of these ideas and sensations. Bodies overlap and disappear, leaving four empty landscapes in their wake.
